چکیده
This paper reported a high intensity experimental fire conducted during field-scale experiment on steep sloped terrain (28°) as part of winter prescribed burns campaign managed by the local firefighter service in north-western region Corsica. The rate spread (ROS) fire, measured using UAV cameras (thermal and visible), was evaluated at 0.45 m/s. numerically reproduced completely physical 2D model, namely FireStar2D, comparison with measurements mainly concerned ROS heat fluxes received three distant targets placed end plot. results analysis shows that considered has wind-driven regime propagation higher than 7 MW/m. numerical are fairly good agreement measurements, within 11% difference for 5% fluxes, validating consequently relevance approach to tackle such high-intensity wildfires. Despite unfavorable wind humidity conditions (U = 1.67 m/s RH 82%), this confirms can exhibit dangerous behavior due slope terrain.

Use of Prescribed Fire for Vegetation Management
Of the 110 000 to 180 000 hectares per year on which prescribed burning has recently been conducted in Canada, 70 000 to 150 000 hectares per year (mostly in British Columbia) has been burned for vegetation management purposes. Such purposes include silviculture, control of plant parasites, promotion of desirable plant species, and conservation of natural ecosystems. The emphasis of prescribed ...
متن کاملVegetation dynamics after a prescribed fire in the southern Appalachians
In April 1995, the USDA Forest Service conducted a prescribed burn along with a south-facing slope of southern Appalachian watershed, Nantahala National Forest, western NC. Fire had been excluded for over 70 years and the purpose of the burn was to create a mosaic of fire intensities to restore a degraded pine/hardwood community and to stimulate forage production and promote oak regeneration al...
متن کاملStereovision for the determination of fireline intensity in vegetation fire
Fireline intensity is one of the most relevant quantities in forest fire science. It helps to evaluate the effects of fuel treatment on fire behaviour, to establish limits for prescribed burning. It is also used as a quantitative basis to support fire suppression activities. However, its measurement at field scale for actual fire remains a challenge. Hence, it has been poorly used as a key quan...
متن کاملThe Effect of Experimental Prescribed Fire on White Pine Regeneration
We examined the effects of prescribed fire on white pine (Pinus strobus) advance regeneration in small experimental plots in mixed hardwood-pine forests in southwestern Virginia during the fall and spring. Fires killed all newly germinated seedlings in both spring and fall. Saplings (ranging from 0.7 3.4 m in height) all suffered some degree of crown scorch, but sapling survival was higher on p...
متن کاملAn Experimental/Numerical Study of Internal Wave Transmission Across an Evanescent Level
Numerical and experimental studies show that a wavepacket of internal gravity waves may be partially re ected from and transmitted into a region where the wave intrinsic frequency is comparable to the background buoyancy frequency. The departure of the propagation behaviour from that predicted by ray theory is examined in detail. In particular, weakly nonlinear e ects are shown to play a signi ...
